The Ref's Clan takes certain International holidays very seriously, and we encourage you to do the same. Stanley Day was started in 1974 by legendary, world-renowned fashionista and food connoisseur, Byron Simar of historic Eagle Bend, Minnesota. To honor his pet and confidant Stanley the Rooster, the holiday was created and continues to this day every September 25.
The holiday is now celebrated around the world, as Byron's talents have taken him and the memory of Stanley on a worldwide itinerary. Wherever you are on September 25, we hope you take the time remember Stanley and celebrate his rooster-ness in some small (or grandiose) way. Ways to Celebrate: Wear mismatched, colorful socks This was a favorite past time of Stanley and bloggers tend to agree that it was the beginnings of Byron's fascination with fashion. Eat a cupcake Byron was known to participate in then-legal cupcake fights with Stanley and neighborhood chicken gangs. Other than the paper route, this was Simar's only real source of income in the 70s. Eat a cupcake wrapped in bacon We feel this needs no explanation. Spread the word Without your generosity the legend of Stanley will be forgotten. Please help this time-honored tradition be passed on to future generations. Happy [International] Stanley Day! |
